About
The Rivermen Jr. Drum Corps is a new regionally performing drum and bugle corps presented by Oregon Performing Arts Association (OPAA). This organization consists of approximately 120 young men and women ages 14 to 21 located in the greater Portland Metro area. This year the Rivermen will be competing in the Soundsport, a program of Drum Corps International.
The Rivermen take a different approach to drum corps than the many World Class Drum Corps. The Rivermen offer a reduced time and financial commitment for students looking to experience the thrill of competitive Drum and Bugle Corps. Due to the reduction of time commitment, the corps maintains efficiency, excellence, and high-class education which is held to the same degree as all of OPAA's programs.
For so many, the time commitment and cost of a World-Class drum corps just isn’t possible. The Rivermen program gives brass, percussion and colorguard performers a place to experience drum corps in a different capacity. They learn from some of the best teachers in the activity, they have the infrastructure of OPAA’s team to provide much needed support, but of course, there are less financial pressure and less time commitment.
